Prince Charles is being accused of hypocrisy after it was revealed that he is chartering a private jet for a five-day tour of Europe to promote environmental issues.
The Prince and the Duchess of Cornwall, plus ten Clarence House staff, will fly from London to Rome this evening. Then they will fly on to Venice and Berlin, before returning to Britain. Clarence House aides stress that the trip is at the request of the Government to promote its climate change policies.

But instead of using scheduled flights, the Royal party has hired a private plane, thought to be an Airbus A319. According to experts from the Carbon Managers company, which carries out environmental audits, the aircraft's four European flights over 2,200 miles will leave a carbon footprint of 52.95 tons - nearly five times the average person's 11-ton footprint for an entire year.

In the view of Deforestation Watch, it is precisely this kind of environmental extremism that gives the environmental movement a bad name.  How else should Prince Charles travel?  Take a slow boat or purchase a ticket on a commercial jetliner?  It is obvious that such a course of action would pose intolerable security risks for the heir to the British throne.

Environmental tokenism and extremism appears to be the exclusive purview of late of some in the environmental movement, such as Greenpeace, the oddly named Friends of the Earth (with the equally unfortunate acronym “FOE”) and the Rainforest Action Network (RAN).  In fact, the tokenism and actions taken by these organizations sometimes border on the ludicrous and appear to take them to the lunatic fringes of civilized communities.

It is perhaps overdue that Deforestation Watch notes that an inaugural award called the “Green Loonies Awards 2010” has been launched by the Palm Oil Truth Foundation this week.  According to the website www.palmoiltruthfoundation.com, the Award will be conferred on “The Most Dishonest Environmental Organization in the World 2009/2010”.

In the view of Deforestation Watch, the Award Criteria is most apt, as the awrdee will be selected based on the following criteria:

1.    A lack of commitment to the truth and a demonstrated lack of integrity in the campaigns or pronouncements propagated by the environmental organization  in the twelve (12) months preceding the award (in this respect, all falsehoods, equivocations and half truths emanating from the nominee’s campaigns or pronouncements would be given due consideration)
2.    A demonstrated lack of balance in the nominee’s campaigns or pronouncements in giving due consideration to the socio-economic needs of undeveloped or developing countries as well as pressing world issues like the eradication of poverty and hunger and the provision of basic healthcare, education and clean water supply to the undeveloped or developing parts of the world rather than mere environmental tokenism.

Nominations close on December 31st, 2009.THE END.

Yeah, Greenpeace, FOE and RAN certainly has demonstrated a lack of balance in their ra-ra campaigns against palm oil, ignoring important socio-economic issues!

An award of this nature is fitting considering the lunatic lengths Greenpeace, FoE and RAN take their actions. It appears to me that they are totally irrational and cuckoo!

Do you feel that palm oil development is the primary cause of global deforestation?
